Security For Public Spaces And Facilities – City Council Skate Park Case Study
This Skate Board Park run by Napier City Council at a beach location and close to a residential area of Hawkes Bay was plagued with vandalism and unauthorised entry after normal operating hours. Hence, the skate park was in need of a smart perimeter security solution.
Our distributors in New Zealand, Eastek, were commissioned to eradicate this problem by enhancing the detection capability of the existing perimeter. Eastek provides Specialist Security Integration and Monitoring Services for clients to highly refined specifications. As part of the solution, which includes a range of imaging devices and audio warning functions, Eastek installed a HALO system primarily to detect movement within the park activity zone.
Since the installation HALO is regularly triggering intrusions with the culprits caught on camera and subsequently identified (and in most cases warned by the local authorities). With the set-up, HALO activates Eastek‘s cameras and lighting system with a control announcement saying “your entry is unauthorised, please leave immediately”. This usually has the desired effect. To date there have been no false alarms and even through recent Cyclone “Debbie” the system was very stable. There was one alarm during the storm which was thought was due to the high winds but this turned out to be an unauthorised entry when the images were subsequently analysed.
